Ahle Sunnat wal Jamaat Bangladesh
Ahle Sunnat wal Jamaat Bangladesh is a principal organisation of Barelvi Islamic scholars of Bangladesh.[1] Qazi Muhammad Moinuddin Ashrafi is the current chairman of Ahle Sunnat wal Jamaat Bangladesh. Maulana ANM Masud Husain Al Qadri is the current secretary general of the organization. The Organization is known for its nature of preserving the traditional beliefs of Ahle Sunnat wal Jamaat by boycotting the newly emerging deviant sects such as Wahhabis and Deobandis.[2] They follow four schools of Islamic jurisprudence and are affiliated with the different Sufi orders.[3]
Activities
Ahle Sunnat wal Jamaat Bangladesh is associated with various religious activities and protests on Muslim attacks in addition to protesting Wahabi Deobandi Ideologies.[2] In 2017, it protested the recognition of Qaumi Madrasa as its affiliation to Wahabi-Deobandi sects. In May 2021, it was in the media regarding its protest against genocide in Palestine by Israel.[4] In 2020, It led a procession in front of Baitul Mukarram National mosque against the publication of caricatures of Prophet Muhammad (Sallallhu alihi wasallam) in France.[5] In April 2021, 551 Ulema of Ahle Sunnat urged the government to ban Hefajat-e-Islam, an extremist and militant group based on Deobandi ideologies.[6]
Persecution
Due to Wahabi-Deobandi dominance in some parts of Bangladesh, Ahle Sunnat leaders and followers often face various persecutions. Sometimes there Khanqahs are destroyed; their programs are restricted and their leaders and saints are killed. It was in 2016 when Ahle Sunnat leader, Nurul Islam Farooqi was slaughtered at his home, just because he was against the deviant Wahabi-Deobandi ideologies.
